This location is behind the historic cheese weighing building ‘de Waag’.

Young and old will enjoy the Nativity scene with Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and the 3 Wise Men. Children can walk in and pet the animals (bunnies, chickens and sheep). The Nativity scene was realised by volunteers of the Petting Zoo ‘De Goudse Hofsteden’.

GordijnOpzij performs “How it came about that the penguins celebrated Christmas in Gouda”. Marleen van Os and Ben Bijker have created a beautiful story about how one night the penguins get into trouble because of the icy cold. A heartwarming story that ends under the big Christmas tree in Gouda.

De Boekfiets will of course be present again at Gouda by Candlelight this year and it is full of fun Christmas stories! A nice moment of peace for the youngest visitors during all the festivities in the city. The “Book Bike” is a recognisable cargo bike that is equipped with a complete inventory of books, cuddly toys, games, drawing materials and a sound system. The reading volunteers (‘Boekfietsers’) ride out with the Boekfiets every week to schools, kindergartens, childcare centers, community centers, libraries, playgrounds and parks where they read aloud indoors and outdoors at De Boekfiets. The Book Cyclists read aloud with the help of a storytelling box and play language games with children and parents. In this way, they literally bring the pleasure of reading to children and parents. “Boekfiets” is a concept of Stichting Aanzet and is offered by the Brede School.
