Photo impressions of Gouda by Candlelight 2022

The program kicked off on Friday, December 16th at 02:00 PM with the opening concert. Simultaneously, other programming began at the the various locations (inside and on the streets) in the city center and the market square around the City Hall.

Opening concert Pionier and Byorkester

This year, Kongsberg’s Byorkester traveled to Gouda for Gouda by Candlelight. 2022 marked exactly 70 years since the orchestra participated in an international music competition held in Gouda. This event marked the beginning of the friendship between Gouda en Konsberg.

They played the opening en closing numbers together with the Pioneer. Afterwards, they each alternated playing a piece.

Tree ceremony

From 6.30 PM to 8.00 PM, the Market Ssquare hosted the tree ceremony. The Bulkout band, the Theaterbakkerheij’s house band, featuring soloists Martin van der Starre and Elise Mannah, created a festive Christmas atmosphere with their repertoire ranging from traditional to poppy. Mayor Pieter Verhoeve, along with the children’s council, read the Christmas story. The grand finale was the lighting of the tree light by Mayor Pieter Verhoeve, Deputy Mayor Anders Naess of Kongsberg, and our children’s mayor Roselina Toekoen.

Stage “Peperstraat” was a success!

Stage “Peperstraat” is a new addition to Gouda by Candlelight. Thanks to a collaboration with over 30 residents of Peperstraat and Westhaven, and contributions from GoudApot and Sociëteit Concordia, this outdoor stage was added to the program. Throughout the day, the street was the backdrop for music, theater and a touch of nostalgia.

The video alongside (made by one of the Peperstraat residents) and the photo’s beatifully capture the atmosphere during the day and the evening.

For years, Candlelight Evening has been more than just an evening event. In 2022, there was also plenty to do in Gouda’s city center, from 2:00 PM until the wee hours. Below a glimpse of various performances and locations during Gouda by Candlelight 2022.
