18. Podium Peperstraat
Thanks to a collaboration of more than 30 residents of the Peperstraat and Westhaven, the street becomes the backdrop of music, theatre and a touch of nostalgia. Using the many bridges and former warehouses, performances can be attended. Have a look at the flyer with the full programme or see the details below..

A. Peperstraat 1
15:15 – 15:45
The Salvation Army’s brass band plays traditional Christmas carols.
16:30 – 17:00
Mizzelto is a Christmas choir from Utrecht. Dressed entirely in Dickensian style, they sing polyphonic Christmas carols, Christmas tearjerkers and carols in Dutch, English and Latin to the accompaniment of the accordion.
17:45 – 18:15
Carols by Candlelight consists of 5 ladies and 4 men, all living in Gouda and the surrounding area. They sing traditional carols to get into the mood.
19:00 – 19:30
After a few years of absence, the Jubal All Star Xmas Band returns for a number of musical sets at Gouda by Candlelight.

In the afternoon you can listen to 5 Gouda primary school choirs, who will play their most beautiful Christmas repertoire:

Warm up to a nice story! Four top storytellers take you into their worlds. Marike Verschoor is the winner of the Grey Canary 2023 storytelling competition. Her stories connect people and stimulate your imagination. Pauline ’t Jong has stories with a smile, goosebumps and a tear. Kees Geelhoed tells witty and light-hearted stories from all corners of the world. For Hugo Gastkemper, telling is painting with words to take you to another place for a while. Each story lasts about 10 minutes and the narrators alternate continuously.
C. Peperstraat 26
14:00 – 22:00
ASVZ is a centre for daytime activities for people with disabilities. After a renovation, the building and their shop will be officially reopened that day. The clients have participated in the decoration of the Peperstraat. Neighbour Sam will supply the glühwein and hot chocolat.
D. Back of Westhaven 19
20:30 – 21:15
The young artists of the Rosko String Quartet are all studying at the conservatory in Utrecht. With Merlijn Bakker and Bente Torstensson on violin, Jonathan Speiser on viola and Eloise Visser on cello, they will play music during Gouda by Candlelight to enter the winter days in an atmospheric way.
E. Peperstraat 64

Stichting IPA Producties presents the family musical Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat. This musical can be seen on April 5, 6 and 7, 2024 in the Theaterbakkerheij in Gouda. The cast would like to show you some sneak peeks.
F. Citygarden Westhaven 34
20:00 – 21:00
Jubal All Star Xmas Band returns after a few years of absence for a number of musical sets. The repertoire consists of the well-known Christmas classics such as Ave Maria, Silent Night, Gloria and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, but also a number of jazzy uptempo big band style arrangements of contemporary Christmas tunes.

Casa della Poesia will be opened on 15 December especially for Poets by Candlelight from Gouda and the surrounding area. The host of the evening is poet Jaco Wineke and the accompanying music is by Shannon Breeze.
Poems by primary and secondary school pupils will be exhibited as ‘window poems’ and on banners in the city. And if you want, you can make an appearance during Gouda by Candlelight in the specially designed Casa della Poesia!

Come and listen, join the conversation or watch at Your Stories Radio! Young people from the Jeugd Theaterhuis create an interactive, theatrical radio show together with the audience. With live performances and conversations about everything that concerns young people and the themes of Gouda by Candlelight!

Locatieheatergroep Turf plays ‘Rather not’. Slightly absurdist theatre performance about what happens when someone does not want to participate in what society considers normal. When is the limit of charity reached?

25 years ago, the double quartet Dinsdag Zingen was founded. Since then, they have been singing, nowadays under the inspiring direction of conductor Annemarie van Bragt. They used to sing a Christmas repertoire on a street corner, in a church or in a living nativity scene. This year in the Peperstraat, which they consider a great honor.

Come and listen to Twelve’s special Christmas performance. With six voices, they bring a cappella light music to life. This Utrecht-based group, led by Tijs Krammer, gives Christmas songs a new twist with their unique arrangements. They

Traditionally, a 10-minute version of the famous Scrooge story is continuously performed in Kleintheater Zwaan, this year for the fourth time. They are hilarious and powerful performances with a big wink to the original story. The location is unique. the smallest complete theatre in the Netherlands.
M. Peperstraat 124

Singing group Ladies On Stage (LOS) from Vlaardingen is an enthusiastic group with 25 creative ladies, all of whom enjoy singing and performing. The pleasure of singing together is paramount to them, because. it’s not a party if LOS wasn’t there!
N. Peperstraat 126
14:00 – 17.00
Last summer, music theatre GOED WERK performed the performance ‘Koekenbakkers’ in Gouda. Especially for Gouda by Candlelight they have made a Christmas version of it. This short, continuous musical performance takes place in a fictitious biscuit factory. The biscuit bakers are used to baking stroopwafels, but now they have to switch to Christmas wreaths. They don’t find that easy. But everything is always artisanal!

GordijnOpzij plays. “How it came about that the penguins celebrated Christmas in Gouda“. Marleen van Os and Ben Bijker have made a beautiful story about how one night the penguins get into trouble because of the icy cold. A heartwarming story that ends under the big Christmas tree in Gouda.
O. Peperstraat 57
19:30 – 22:00
The Gouda bands PANSHIR & Tribute alternate. When you hear the splitting riffs of PANSHIR, you quickly think of bands like Muse, The Tea Party and Arctic Monkeys. What makes this band slightly different? The light Middle Eastern and Persian influences that shine through between the lyrics and melodies. The band themselves describe their sound as a variation from a fist on your chin to a pat on your back. So don’t just expect candlelight, expect flames as well.
Tribute is a very experienced rock band that plays a mix of covers and original songs on guitar, bass and percussion. They play from small garden parties to large barns and everything in between. They bring Ben Howard as smoothly as The Killers. Even acoustic. Tribute will rock your socks off! The highlight you can’t miss is the hilarious Christmas song.
